Are you keeping a mpango, seducing school girls? Boda riders will catch you!
Boda boda riders from Migori have issued a stern warning to their colleagues who keep mpago wa kandos and prey on young school girls.
They have resorted to disciplining anyone who is caught in any clandestine behaviour or cheating on their spouses.
The riders claim that they are tired of being labelled as sex predators by the media and the society.
Cases of boda riders wooing school girls, impregnating them and later dumping them have been common in the area.
According to a 2015 National Council for Population and Development National Adolescents and Youth Survey Preliminary Report, boda boda riders were blamed for impregnating young girls, who eventually dropped out and other, got involved in early marriages.
Last week, some of the boda riders frogmarched a colleague, who had been caught with his mpango wa kando at his matrimonial bed.
The man was accused of sending his wife packing and brought his new lover, something that really angered his colleagues.
He was forced to beg for forgiveness from his wife, who praised the boda riders citing the initiative was a good one to ensure randy behaviour is tamed.
Speaking to The Nairobian, the area Boda Boda Chairman, Bernard Lokoe Kakrao, noted plans were underway to deregister any boda rider, who was caught engaging in any clandestine behaviour, from their sacco.
“ It is sad that our name has been tarnished. I am not denying that we have some randy ones amongst ourselves, but I want to tell them, we are soon going to catch up with them. They will no walk away free. They must be responsible for their actions, “ he said.
Lokoe further stated that they were also empowering the boda riders with financial management skills and encouraging them to save for a rainy day.
“Recently, one of our colleague died and when we for his burial, we realised he didn’t have a home. It was such a shame. We pooled recourses together and built his family a decent house. We want to empower each other especially now that Covid has affected our business,” he said.
He added that they are also encouraging the young one to marry so that they don’t spend all their earnings on slay queens and alcohol.
“We give them a week to get married, build a house and get ID cards or else, we deregister them from our boda boda sacco,” Lokoe said.
Anthony Okumu, another rider and member of United Boda Boda Sacco said they were not going to sit pretty and watch their colleagues waste away.
“ We have resorted to canning the ill-mannered ones. We are not happy since our name is being tarnished because of some few indisciplined individuals amongst us. We will embrass them and let the public know about their misconduct,” he said.
Emily Rubai, who is a member of United Boba boda Sacco, said that they were going through so many challenges as riders.
Rubai noted that some customers shun away from their services due to the bad word that goes round in the area.
