A 24-year-old man is being held at Siaya police station after he allegedly stabbed his elder brother to death over food at Sirongo-Oware village in Central Alego location on Thursday evening.

The suspect, Lawrence Oduor Wayodi is said to have attacked his brother Erick Otieno,26, on April 13.

According to the Assistant Chief of Kakumu-Kombewa sub-location Mr Philip Ogola, the deceased was preparing an evening meal when Oduor came to demand food and a quarrel ensued.

The deceased is reported to have excused himself from their late parents' kitchen and walked down to his house then came back after a few minutes and found the vegetable knife that he had used to cut tomatoes missing.

"When Otieno asked for the knife, his younger brother poured water into the fire and then picked a fight with him before drawing the knife which he used to stab him to death," said the administrator.

He added that the two brothers, who are orphans, have been staying at their late parents' home.

He told The Standard that after allegedly committing the heinous act, the suspect presented himself to the chief's office to report that he had killed his brother.

"I visited the scene and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with several stab wounds all over his chest," he said.

Police moved the body to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Investigations are ongoing.
