An 18-year-old woman has been arrested after police allegedly found tools hidden inside a plate of food she had taken to three remanded suspects at Ruai Police Station in Nairobi.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the discovery was made on Monday, September 15, when officers searched the meal and found a pair of pliers and a shear concealed beneath rice and meat.
According to the DCI, Christine Njoki Gitau arrived at the station’s reception and asked to see three friends who were being held over allegations of robbery with violence and gang rape.
She was carrying a plate of rice and meat, which she said was meant for the suspects.
During a routine check, a cell sentry went through the food and discovered the tools.
“A routine scoop through the food led to a shocking discovery: buried beneath the meal lay a pair of pliers and a shear,” the DCI said.

The three suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru. They are being held at Ruai Police Station over allegations of gang rape and robbery with violence.
The DCI said preliminary investigations indicate that the trio allegedly operated an anonymous TikTok account through which they contacted young women and arranged physical meetings.
Detectives allege that the suspects used the account to lure women before robbing and sexually assaulting them.
The three were arrested earlier in the week in the Benedicta area of Ruai during an intelligence-led operation. Police said several mobile phones and hooded jackets were recovered during the operation.
Following Gitau’s arrest, detectives launched further investigations to establish whether other people were involved in the alleged jailbreak plan.
The DCI said Gitau is expected to be arraigned alongside the three suspects once investigations are complete.
Police have warned that anyone found assisting suspects to escape custody could face criminal charges.
