Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has challenged the Director of Criminal Investigations to send officers to his home if they need him to record a statement over the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso, a former African Institute of Mental and Brain Health director.
Speaking in Kiambu during the opening of a Democratic Congress Party (DCP), Gachagua insisted that he continues to receive 'credible' information from government officers, vowing to protect their identities
"Kama unasema kuna watu walinipigia simu si ukuje kwangu uandike taarifa," Gachagua said, noting that he was ready to cooperate with investigators but would not present himself at the DCI headquarters or police station.
Gachagua also argued that he has moved beyond the level of ordinary political actors, having served in the country's second-highest office.
"Mimi nimepita hiyo kiwango. Mimi Niko kiwango ya Rais. So wewe kama, kuna watu walinipigia simu kuja kwangu tuandike statement, I will write," he said.
His sentiments came a few hours after the conference chaired by DCI boss Mohammed Amin, who said investigators have established that Gachagua has been in contact with one of the key suspects as well as the boda boda who is alleged to have been involved in the fatal shooting.

"Unfortunately, what came out very clearly is that Honourable Rigathi Gachagua was in communication with one of our main suspects who was feeding him with this information," Amin said.
He added that Gachagua was in communication with Kelvin Kinuthia, the boda boda man investigators say ferried the gunman to the scene of Dr Mutiso's murder in Upper Hill.
He also accused Gachagua of interfering with the investigation, claiming his public statements nearly jeopardised the operation to track down the suspects as they had allegedly attempted to flee.
Dr Mutiso was shot dead on 29th July in Nairobi, where an investigation shows that the Uber vehicle she was travelling in encountered a black Toyota Prado that partially blocked the road in Mawensi before a gunman opened fire and shot her.
The intelligence-led investigation, forensic examinations and CCTV analysis led to the arrest of two suspects, Daniel Mwangi Njoroge and Ngungi Kinuthia, alongside some police officers.
