A farmer has been charged with theft and impersonation after allegedly stealing Sh653,000 from his girlfriend while falsely claiming to be a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier.
The accused appeared before the Chief Magistrate at the Komarock Law Courts in Njiru Sub-County on June 19 where he faced three charges, including theft and impersonation.
According to court documents, the accused unexpectedly returned to the complainant’s home after being absent for an extended period.
When questioned about his whereabouts, he allegedly told the woman, identified as L.N.O. and whom he affectionately called “Rita”, that he had been away on a military assignment as a KDF soldier.
The prosecution alleges that during the night, he accessed the complainant’s mobile phone and transferred Sh403,000 to a telephone number linked to a relative living abroad, over which he had control.
He is further accused of stealing an additional Sh250,000 from a safe in the house. The money had reportedly been set aside to pay school fees.
The court released the accused on a Sh500,000 bond and scheduled the matter for mention in October.
