Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge's legacy has been literally cemented in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
In viral photos seen by TNX Africa, organisers of the NB 42K Porto Alegre 2026 permanently immortalised the Kenyan runner by preserving his footprint at the entrance of Parque Harmonia.
The monument, unveiled during the weekend's marathon events, is a lasting tribute to Kipchoge's historic contribution to global athletics and his status as one of the greatest marathon runners of all time.
The photos showed Kipchoge, dressed in a maroon tracksuit, carefully placing his foot into wet concrete to leave the permanent imprint as officials and fans looked on.
The celebrated athlete also signed a commemorative plaque dedicated to him in Porto Alegre.
Another image circulating on social media showed Kipchoge signing the tribute display with a black marker.
The plaque features a prominent photo of the marathon great celebrating during a race, alongside the Portuguese word Homenagem, meaning "tribute" or "honour", and his famous mantra translated into Portuguese, "Nenhum humano é limitado" ("No human is limited").
The bottom right of the plaque bears the official branding of the Porto Alegre city government, marking the historic tribute.
Photos shared by the DSM-Firmenich Running Team on Instagram also captured an emotional interaction between Kipchoge and his fans behind a security barrier.
One image showed the marathon icon signing a bright orange race T-shirt as an emotional female fan, dressed in a black athletic top with white stripes, leans across the barricade with tears in her eyes while watching him autograph her shirt.
Around her, dozens of spectators watched the touching moment, with many taking photos while others held out memorabilia for Kipchoge to sign.
The Brazilian running team captioned the post, "Forever etched in history. A footprint on Brazilian soil. A legacy that inspires generations. @kipchogeeliud has left his mark at the entrance of Parque Harmonia in Porto Alegre."
Kipchoge has received hero's welcomes in several countries throughout his career.
In March, the two-time Olympic marathon champion was greeted by thousands of fans lining the streets in China after arriving for a visit.
A viral video seen by TNX Africa showed Kipchoge being escorted by officials as cheering supporters waved welcome banners to the long-distance runner, who was presented with a flower garland and took time to sign autographs for his admirers.
