Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University student Alice Riang’a enjoyed the finer things in life and was living large before she was killed.

At just 20 and in second year pursuing a career in education, her lifestyle was splendid, one that is admired by many.

Her social media footprints reveal a student who enjoyed lavish trips with her boyfriend to posh sites. From feeding giraffes at undisclosed location to a flight to Diani, Alice was in wonderland, enjoying the good trappings of life.

She had little to worry about. Her alleged boyfriend was rich and swimming in money.

Beneath this flawless life, however, darkness that would later creep in. What had been just an ordinary week turned horrific when she went missing after leaving her hostels on Wednesday last week.

Police in Bondo Sub-county have arrested a Tanzanian gold dealer in connection with her murder. The officers believe the suspect, who was pictured several times with the deceased, could have had a hand in her disappearance.

The suspect, identified as Maximillian John Madeni, was arrested following the discovery of Alice Rianga’s body in a thicket near Barkowino area.

According to Bondo Sub-county Police Commander Robert Aboki, the body was discovered on Saturday by women who had gone to fetch firewood.

Aboki said the deceased was last seen on Wednesday last week when she reportedly left her hostel in Bondo town for the university’s main campus but failed to return.

Her roommate, Kayla Wanyonyi, later filed a missing person report on Sunday, only for the description provided to match the body that had been recovered a day earlier.

Police said initial observations at the scene indicated there were no signs of a struggle, raising suspicion that the student may have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped at the scene.
