VIDEO: Mystery deepens over death of university student in Kileleshwa apartment

Authorities in Nairobi have launched an investigation into the death of a 22-year-old woman who reportedly fell from a sixth-floor balcony at an Airbnb in Kileleshwa.

The victim has since been identified as Consolata Githinji, a fourth-year student at Murang’a University.

According to local media reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at Kaisa Garden Apartments, where she had been staying in a short-term rental unit with her 33-year-old boyfriend, Tony Odhiambo.

Police have since released CCTV footage capturing the pair before the incident.

In the clip seen by TNX Africa, at 4:11 am on Saturday, a security guard is seen patrolling the apartment grounds shortly before the couple arrived.

22-year-old Consolata Githinji is reported to have fallen from the sixth floor of an Airbnb apartment in Kileleshwa early Sunday morning.

At around 4:20 am, Consolata arrived at the complex with a man now being questioned by police.

As they walked in, the video shows her attempting to signal or reach out to the guard, but he moved away before they could speak.

Moments later, the same guard helped the couple open a lockbox to access the keys to their sixth-floor unit, and the pair went inside.

Shortly after 4:30 am, security cameras captured moving shadows near the entrance of the room, suggesting a possible disturbance inside.

Just two minutes later, the guard was seen entering the unit.

At around 4:43 am, he left the apartment, paused briefly in the hallway, then walked off, before returning once more at 4:46 am.

According to investigators, this was the final moment Consolata was seen alive before her fatal fall.

Officers are now seeking to establish why the guard entered the room and what he witnessed during those critical moments, as well as what transpired in the minutes leading up to her death.

Githinji’s partner, Odhiambo, has been detained as investigations continue.

He told police, “Kwenda huko, akasimama hivo kwa window. The bedroom window, something that I didn’t even know or strike my mind. By the time naenda hapo, I could not save the situation. Nikakimbia hivi..cha…akaanguka.”

Investigators have also established that the room had earlier been occupied.

Records and CCTV footage show that three other individuals, two women and one man, had checked into the same apartment the previous evening and stayed for several hours before leaving ahead of the couple’s arrival.

Detectives are now examining whether their presence is linked to the incident.

As investigations continue, Kenyans on social media have expressed mixed reactions to the tragedy.

On YouTube, user Careen wrote, “Woooii! RIP Connie!” while another, Samwa Kariuki, added, “May you rest well Connie. So sad to see this.”
