On a calm December afternoon, as the year gently drew to a close, Jomo Gecaga and Lola Hannigan chose to seal their love away from the noise of the public eye.
The nephew of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former KTN television presenter exchanged vows on December 26, 2025, in a private ceremony that blended elegance, tradition and deep personal meaning.
Held at an undisclosed location, the wedding was deliberately intimate, attended only by close family members and a small circle of trusted friends.
There were no grand announcements or media caravans. Instead, the day unfolded quietly, deliberately, a celebration of love rather than spectacle.
Nearly a month later, Gecaga broke his silence with a tender social media post that offered the public a glimpse into the joy of that day.

Accompanied by a beautifully curated wedding video, his words were simple but deeply personal.
“On this day, I married my best friend, my safe place, my answered prayer. Lola, loving you is the greatest decision of my life. Forever begins here.” The message drew warm reactions from family, friends and public figures.
Among the most touching was a blessing from Lola’s mother, who wrote, “Congratulations to you both! May God bless your marriage with harmony, good health and happiness. May He guide your hearts to love and care for each other always.”
When Lola Hannigan walked down the aisle, she did so in a gown that spoke softly but unmistakably of romance.
She wore a white, sleeveless ball gown with a highly embellished bodice and a full, flowing skirt that moved gracefully with every step.
The bodice shimmered with intricate beadwork, sequins and embroidery, creating a rich, textured finish.
Beneath a sheer illusion lace overlay that extended delicately to her shoulders sat a sweetheart neckline, with the skirt flowing outward in voluminous layers, accessorized with embellishments near the waist.
Her look was completed with understated accessories: a small tiara nestled into her elegantly styled hairdo, drop pearl earrings and a large bouquet of white baby’s breath flowers tied together with a simple white ribbon.
It was a bridal look that balanced glamour with restraint.
Guest list
The guest list reflected the couple's closeness to power and wealth. Present were former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and Mama Ngina Kenyatta, marking the importance of the moment within the wider Kenyatta family. Also in attendance was Keroche Breweries heiress Anerlisa Muigai, among other close friends of the couple.Despite the high-profile names, those familiar with the ceremony described it as “posh but intimate.”
There was limited media access, carefully managed moments and an atmosphere that prioritised family over formality.
Gecaga himself looked every bit the groom in a sharp pin-striped suit, complemented by a ceremonial sash symbolising his status as a Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (M.G.H.).
He received the national honour in July 2022 for distinguished service, and the sash added a subtle sense of occasion to the day.
Later shared images of the couple standing side by side, Gecaga in his sash and Lola glowing in white, drew admiration online, with some likening the images to royal portraits of Britain’s King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William, who are often photographed wearing ceremonial sashes.
As the formalities gave way to celebration, Lola changed into a second gown for the wedding dance, a striking contrast to her bridal ball gown.
She emerged in a form-fitting, floor-length dress with a shimmering silver finish. The sleek, body-hugging design caught the light as she moved, the fabric’s high sheen reflecting the joy of the moment. A high slit on the side allowed for easy movement, adding both elegance and freedom as she danced with her husband. It was a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the day, polished, joyful and deeply personal.
The wedding came just weeks after the couple welcomed their third child together. Jomo Gecaga and Lola Hannigan have been together for over half a decade and are parents to three children.
Gecaga is a father of six in total, with children from previous relationships.
Child maintenance case
Over the years, his personal life has occasionally been the subject of public attention, particularly during court proceedings related to child maintenance.
In July 2023, former television presenter Anne Kiguta filed a high-profile child support case against the former State House official, seeking at least Sh2.7 million per month or a lump sum of Sh413 million as maintenance costs for their children until they turn 18.
Kiguta alleged that Gecaga abandoned his parental responsibilities in 2018, after the two got married in 2015. The couple were blessed with twins and Kiguta entered the marriage with a daughter from a previous relationship
In court filings, Kiguta argued that Gecaga had introduced the children to a lavish lifestyle that should be maintained. She claimed the minors had suffered public humiliation and ridicule following the alleged abandonment.
According to court documents, Gecaga met Kiguta in 2015 when she was a prime-time television star. He moved her into a residence in Runda with a monthly rent of Sh555,000.
“It was situated on half an acre piece of land, in a gated community in one of the United Nations diplomatic zones. The house was in a very secure area since it shared a compound with an embassy,” read the court papers.
In July 2023, a Nairobi court barred the media from covering or reporting on the proceedings, directing that the matter remain private. The court also ordered that the two agree on shared custody arrangements during school holidays. In those filings, Gecaga publicly stated that he does not control or have automatic access to Kenyatta family wealth, addressing assumptions tied to his surname.
Against that backdrop, his December wedding marked a turning point, a moment focused firmly on love and family rather than public scrutiny.
Lola, once a familiar face on television screens, has largely kept her family life private in recent years, choosing a quieter path away from the glare of media attention.
Few Kenyans have lived closer to the centre of power than Jomo Gecaga. His mother, Jane “Jeni” Makena Wambui Gecaga, was a daughter of Kenyatta and his third wife, Grace Wanjiku, making Jomo a nephew of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
