A disturbing video that has been widely shared on social media has ignited fresh outrage across Kenya, showing a routine taxi trip descend into a violent confrontation between a group of female passengers and a driver.

The undated footage, believed to have been taken in Nairobi, captures four women surrounding the cab after it stops, before allegedly assaulting the driver in a shocking turn of events.

In the clip, which runs for just under three minutes, the women are seen repeatedly striking the driver while hurling insults at him.

At one point, the footage shows the driver asking the ladies why thy have vandalised his car, while trying to fend off blows.

He attempts to retrieve his mobile phone from one of the women, who, along with others, is heard demanding he surrender the device, claiming he cannot afford such an expensive phone.

Bystanders are seen recording the incident, but there is no clear intervention by onlookers or authorities in the video.

Social media users have reacted with fury condemning the level of aggression displayed and calling for swift legal action against those involved.

Many Kenyans argued that no disagreement can justify physical violence and demanded that authorities identify and arrest the women seen in the footage.

Netizens praised the driver's composure, and noting that a less restrained individual might have responded forcefully.
Others expressed frustration at perceived double standards, pointing out that swift police action and public condemnation often follow incidents of men assaulting women, yet response appears slower here.

While the precise circumstances that led to this latest scuffle remain unclear, and with no official statement yet from police or ride-hailing firms, online anger continues to mount.

Many Kenyans have urged law enforcement to investigate the matter thoroughly and to ensure that justice is served.

Others have urged ride-hailing companies to offer greater protection to drivers, including emergency response systems and legal support.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also condemned the violence as unacceptable gender-based assault on a hustler, vowing support and demanding arrests, while online voices praised the driver's restraint and called for upfront cash from risky groups.

"This man is a hustler, earning an honest living to support himself and his family. Taking advantage of him in such a cruel manner is wrong and unjustifiable," he said.

There has been no official statement yet from any major ride-hailing firm regarding this latest video.
