Kenya has sent 230 specialised police officers to Haiti to reinforce the UN-authorised Gang Suppression Force (GSF), tasked with suppressing armed gangs in the country.

According to a press statement from Kenya’s National Police Service (NPS) on December 9, 2025, the officers were officially flagged off by National Security Advisor Monica Juma.

She was joined at the ceremony by senior NPS officers, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat and DIG of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli.

The NPS stated that the officers, drawn from various formations and units, will strengthen contingents already on the ground as part of the GSF.

They will serve alongside personnel from other participating nations, including Jamaica, Guatemala, El Salvador, the Bahamas, and Belize.

With this deployment, the total number of Kenyan officers in Haiti exceeds 700, making Kenya the largest contributor to the GSF.

The officers will work closely with Haitian authorities, including Les Forces Armées d’Haïti and the Police Nationale d’Haïti (PNH), and are expected to play a central role in reinforcing and accelerating the progress already achieved by the mission.

During the ceremony, Amb. Dr. Juma conveyed a message of goodwill from President William Ruto, urging the officers to serve as exemplary ambassadors of Kenya.

She commended the GSF for its achievements, noting that joint patrols with the Haitian National Police have increased stability and resulted in arrests in gang-controlled areas such as Downtown Port-au-Prince, Ganthier, and Delmas.

The deployment aligns with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2793 (2025) and in turn, underscores Kenya’s commitment to supporting international efforts in restoring law and order in Haiti, as well as strengthening collaboration with the Haitian National Police in the fight against armed gangs.
