Popular TikToker Brian Chira is dead.
According to a police report filed at Karuri Traffic Base, Chira was a victim of a hit-and-run accident that occurred along the Ndenderu-Ruaka road at Gacharage area early Saturday morning.
It has emerged that Chira was going home after a night out at a popular joint in Gacharage when the incident happened.
He had been kicked out of the joint by security guards for causing a disturbance and boarded a motorcycle together with one Zeleck Momanyi.
Upon reaching the Gacharage roundabout, Chira asked the motorcycle rider identified as Abdul Charo to drop him home.
He (Chira) then alighted from the motorcycle and ran towards the main road where he was hit by a canter.
His body was taken to City Mortuary and efforts are underway to trace the vehicle which hit him.
Chira was no stranger to controversy and his online outbursts often landed him in trouble. At one point he blamed loneliness for his behaviour and asked for forgiveness from all those he had wronged.
Speaking during an interview on Kiss FM in 2023, Chira acknowledged letting down his close friends and relatives.
This was around the same time he had been locked up for defaming content creator Azziad Nasenya.
“I do regret everything. I would have done better. If the other party is willing to sit down and have a chat, I am ready,” he said.
Chira, 22, added that he had been suspended from Kabarak University for two weeks and his caregivers were disappointed in him.
He said he intended to do things better as he learnt some valuable lessons during the period he was locked up.
Despite his huge following on socials, Chira said only four people came to visit him and it dawned on him that a cultic following doesn’t necessarily mean you have genuine friends you can count on.
He admitted that fame got to his head and the overnight celebrity status made him think he was better than others.
As a result, he ended up pushing away people who genuinely cared about him because he thought they had ulterior motives.
“I'm sorry to friends who I have been toxic to. I have come to realize that I have been so toxic to friends who really cared about me, but I have never known they had good intentions. I thought they were trying to use me for the fame that I was gaining. They were there to hold me, but I didn’t see it,” Chira said.
Adding: “I woke up one day and found myself an internet sensation,” he said. “Fame got into my head, and I started to think that I was better than everyone else. I started to push people away who I thought didn’t deserve to be in my life. I was wrong, and I’m so sorry.”
