And during his inspection tour, the governor blamed illegal farming for the sewerage.

"Farmers infiltrate the sewer, blocking it so as to use the spillage on their farms. Our engineers are unblocking the sewer line and we will deal with those perpetrating the illegality," said Sakaja on his Twitter handle.

He explained that the source of raw human waste was an old trunk sewer that has for decades been used by residents to cross the river.
