President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Prof Lukoye Atwoli (pictured) as Chairman of the Mathari Teaching and Referral Hospital in Nairobi.
Lukoye will head the hospital board for three years.
His latest appointment now adds to many of his accolades and service to both academic and mental institutions in Kenya and beyond.
In July this year, Lukoye was appointed the Dean of Aga Khan University’s Medical College (East Africa).
His term began on August 1, 2020.
Lukoye who is also COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli’s son is an associate professor of psychiatry in the Moi University Department of Mental Health at the School of Medicine.
He is also a consultant psychiatrist at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and at the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH). He is the head of mental health services at the Centre for Assault Recovery- Eldoret (CAR-E)- a specialized centre for sexual and gender-based violence.
Lukoye, who achievements bypass the mental health fraternity is also a social and health rights advocate. He has influenced and participated in the development of numerous policies and programmes in Kenya.
He also currently sits at the Kenya Medical Association as vice president and is Secretary-General of the African Association of Psychiatrists.
