More than 15,000 residents relying on Ndanai Health Centre in Sotik can now breathe a sigh of relief after a Sh10 million theatre became operational this week.

Residents said it will save the trouble of traveling far to get surgery services.

They said pregnant mothers previously have been forced to go as far as Tenwek Mission and Kapkatet hospitals in neighbouring Kericho to delivery through CS Jeremiah Mageto, a resident of Ekerubo had his wife deliver successfully at the facility on the first day.

“We live less than two kilometres from Ndanai and when my wife went into labour we rushed there hoping to be referred to Kisii or Kericho, but she was successfully operated,” said Mr Mageto.

Medical Superintendent at the facility Erick Kibet said the theatre room has been fitted with ultramodern equipment.

“Locals will be served without being referred unless they have a special case that needs a specialist,” Dr Kibet said.

Bomet County Medical Services Minister Joseph Sitonik said the facility would ease pressure and congestion at Longisa County Referral Hospital where most patients are referred.
