First Lady Margaret Kenyatta

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has called for more action to address still births in the country.

She said despite successes in curbing maternal and child deaths over the past two years, more needed to be done to improve maternal health.

A recent report titled, "Ending preventable stillbirths" published in a medical journal indicated that there were about 23 stillbirths per 1,000 births in 2015, translating to nearly 96 babies born dead daily in the country.

"Improving the well-being and health of women and children is a notion close to my heart and close to my personal experience. Through the Beyond Zero campaign, I have witnessed the pain and suffering families experience due to senseless deaths of women and children," said Mrs Kenyatta.

Through the campaign, 39 counties have already received mobile clinics.
She was speaking during the opening the new Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union board complex in Nairobi.
