DT Dobie operates the CFAO scholarship program that rewards outstanding employees’ children by sponsoring their four year secondary education.

Recently Zarak Khan, the Managing Director of DT Dobie, presented ten secondary school scholarships to the parents on behalf of their children at a breakfast meeting held at the Company’s premises on Lusaka Road.  These students have already joined form one and each recipient will receive 50,000 shillings towards the payment of school fees per year.

Speaking at the function, Vicki Nyaga, the Human Resources Manager, said, “The program was launched in 2002. In 2010, DT Dobie and CFAO launched phase two of the scheme targeting four university students per year. Recipients of the two categories are judged by their results and the ability to maintain the grades throughout their secondary and university education.”

“The scholarship program emphasizes the importance of hard work, consistency and determination. Receiving the scholarship while in form one, or first year in university does not necessarily mean that the student will be funded for the four years. They must maintain good grades. A scholarship will be terminated on account of poor performance and/or indiscipline. Fortunately, the completion rate for the students so far has been over 99%.”

“Sponsored students present regular progress report forms to DT Dobie outlining their performance and character before their scholarship is renewed for the following year. The education fund has so far catered for 114 students in secondary schools and 12 students in universities.”

“We also offer internships to the university students under our scholarship programme.  They usually work for three months in different departments at DT Dobie and the outstanding ones may be offered permanent employment after completion of their education,” concluded Vicki Nyaga.
