Kenya: The German government and Kenyatta National Hospital have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on maternal health.

The agreement, also touching on child health, aims to improve quality management systems at the referral hospital.

“The agreement between the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and KNH will play a crucial role in improving the delivery of quality services in maternal and neonatal health,” Germany’s head of Development Cooperation Lars Wilke said.

The MoU entails providing support to referral structures and national systems in line with the country’s Vision 2030 and the Millennium Development Goals.

GIZ is to provide technical capacity building that would see KNH staff acquire specialised skills to tackle maternal and childcare health.

The German government has been providing training, capacity development and funding to Kenya’s health sector.
