The Ministry of Public Health has issued an alert over suspected outbreak of malaria in and around Naivasha.

Local MOH Joseph Lenai said several cases had been reported.

"There is no cause for alarm but our officers are on high alert as the disease shoots up in July and August due to cold weather," Dr Lenai said.

He at the same time announced the outbreak of a parasitic disease in Gitare and Ortut near Gilgil.

Lenai said cave flies found among communities leaving near forests and in caves caused Leishmaniasis disease.

"We are doing everything possible to contain this outbreak, which causes swelling of skin," he said.
