Kenyan comedian Jasper Muthomi, popularly known as MC Jessy, has warned women against staying with financially struggling men in the hope that they will eventually become successful.

Speaking during an interview on the Tubonge podcast hosted by Chris The Bass, MC Jessy challenged the idea that women should remain with men through their difficult financial years and wait to benefit from their success.

“Stop this nonsense of growing with the man,” he said.

According to the comedian, some women support men through difficult periods only to be left behind when the men become wealthy and successful.

“Because this man, and you bear me witness, you grow with them, they will grow and leave you behind,” he added.

MC Jessy said women also face social pressure as they grow older, with factors such as youth, beauty and fertility often becoming subjects of scrutiny.

He argued that women should therefore be cautious about spending many years waiting for a struggling partner to improve his circumstances, and instead focus on building their own lives and financial stability.

His comments appeared to favour relationships based on stability rather than unions built primarily around the expectation that one partner will eventually become successful.

MC Jessy also addressed young men, urging those in their 20s to prioritise their finances, careers and personal goals before settling down.

“As a man, in your 20s, put your house in order,” he said. “Put your ducks in a row.”

He said young men should work towards financial independence and establish a strong foundation before taking on the responsibilities that come with serious relationships.

His remarks have since stirred debate, with some agreeing that couples should build their lives independently, while others argue that relationships can thrive when partners support each other through financial difficulties and work towards shared goals.
