Country music icon Dolly Parton has been laid to rest beside her husband, Carl Dean, in a private family ceremony in Nashville.
Parton died earlier this week at the age of 80, with her funeral held on Friday and attended by close relatives and loved ones.
She was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, Tennessee, where Dean was laid to rest after his death, according to New York Times.
A day after the burial, Parton’s great-niece, Lainey Parton, shared an emotional tribute to the singer, describing her grief and recalling the special bond they shared.
Lainey said she was struggling to accept that her “granny” was gone, remembering her voice, laughter and warmth.
Although Parton did not have children of her own, Lainey said the singer made her nieces and great-nieces feel deeply loved and supported.
She also credited Parton with encouraging her ambitions from a young age, saying the singer helped her pursue her studies in beauty therapy and never made her dreams seem impossible.
Woodlawn Memorial Park also honoured Parton in an obituary, describing her as a gifted songwriter and performer whose kindness, humour and warmth touched those around her.
The family has asked mourners to donate to Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to young children, instead of sending flowers.
Photos shared by Nashville reporter Amelia Young showed flowers and a condolence book at the gravesite. The tomb bears a brass plaque with Parton and Dean’s names, alongside images connected to their childhood homes.
Parton’s niece, Jada Star, also honoured her during a tribute concert at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House, performing The Orchard, a song she recorded with Parton in 2024.
Country singer Jelly Roll made a surprise appearance during a group performance of Parton’s hit 9 to 5. Grammy winner Carly Pearce was among the other artists who took part.
Meanwhile, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced plans to rename Nashville International Airport after Parton, according to the BBC.
In the UK, 9 to 5 is also expected to perform strongly on the singles chart after fans streamed the song heavily following her death.
