Bradley Marongo reveals his custom shoes cost Sh70,000 a pair [Courtesy]

Bradley Marongo, popularly known as the Gen Z Goliath, has clarified the cost of his custom-made shoes, saying each pair costs about Sh70,000, rather than the Sh20,000 previously reported.

Appearing on the Mic Cheque Podcast, Marongo said he currently owns four pairs, all specially made to fit his unusually large feet.

Marongo explained that his shoe size is far above average, making it difficult to find suitable footwear in regular shops. As a result, his shoes have to be specially ordered and handmade by skilled shoemakers.

The process involves taking precise measurements of his feet, selecting suitable materials and carefully stitching each pair, contributing to the high cost.

Despite his growing profile as a content creator and actor, Marongo said he has only four pairs of the custom-made shoes because replacing them is neither easy nor cheap.

Since each pair is made specifically for him, he cannot simply buy another pair off the shelf.

Marongo rose to prominence during Kenya's 2024 Gen Z protests, with his extraordinary height making him a prominent figure on social media.

Born and raised in Majengo, Vihiga County, Marongo is reportedly 8 feet 2 inches (249 centimetres) tall and wears shoe size 48. His weight has been estimated at between 120 and 135 kilogrammes.

Before gaining fame, Marongo moved to Nairobi, where he worked as a passenger tout, commonly known as a kamagera, in Kangemi.

His growing popularity later opened opportunities in content creation, brand promotion and acting.

He has worked with various companies, travelled to countries including the United Arab Emirates and participated in international film projects. He is also married and has two daughters.

Marongo's exceptional height has been associated in reports with gigantism, a rare condition in which excessive growth hormone production during childhood causes abnormal growth before the growth plates close.

Gigantism differs from acromegaly, which occurs when excess growth hormone affects adults after the growth plates have closed.
