Alaine marks 7 years since leaving secular music for Christianity

Jamaican reggae icon Alaine Laughton has marked seven years since leaving secular music to fully commit to her Christian faith, reflecting on what she describes as a sustained and transformative spiritual journey.

The artist, who was publicly baptised in Kingston, Jamaica, in July 2018, recently celebrated the milestone, saying her walk with Christ remains strong and unwavering.

Known for East African favourites such as No Ordinary Love and Rise in Love, Alaine transitioned from contemporary lovers’ rock to gospel and inspirational music, releasing spiritually themed tracks including Boast inna God.

Taking to her Instagram account on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the No Ordinary Love hitmaker shared a smiling photo accompanied by a tribute to God’s faithfulness in her life.

In the post, she reflected on her journey of gratitude, highlighting what she described as spiritual protection and emotional healing since her transformation.

“I smile, because I know what God has and keeps doing for me,” an ecstatic Alaine wrote.

“He keeps me. He heals me. He delivers me. He guides me. He comforts me. He prospers me. He protects me. He inspires me. He forgives me.”

In Kenya, artists such as Size 8, Amani, Kush Tracy and Lady Bee have also made similar transitions from secular to gospel music, reflecting a broader shift in parts of the region’s music industry.

Alaine’s decision to become a born-again Christian was widely celebrated across East Africa, where she continues to enjoy a strong and loyal fan base.

She had previously collaborated with Kenyan singer Willy Paul on the wedding anthem "I Do," a track that topped charts and gained widespread popularity.

Despite her shift in musical direction, she remains a prominent figure in both the East African and global reggae scenes.
