Former US President Barack Obama on Saturday wished current President Donald Trump speedy recovery after the latter tested positive for Coronavirus. Through a tweet, Obama wished all those affected by the virus quick recovery and urged Americans to steer clear of hateful messages at this time.

“Michelle and I hope that the President, First Lady, and all those affected by the coronavirus around the country are getting the care they need and are on the path to a speedy recovery. Obviously, we’re in the midst of a big political battle right now, and while there’s a lot at stake, let’s remember that we’re all Americans. We’re all human beings. And we want everyone to be healthy, no matter our party,” he tweeted.

When Trump announced that he and his wife Melania had tested positive for Covid-19, the tweet was met with lots of hate. A number of twitter users reminded Trump of his casual approach to the virus and claimed he deserved what he got.

Piers Morgan also echoed Obama’s message, lashing out at Trump’s critics who have been rejoicing in the president's positive coronavirus test. At the age of 74, the president is in the high-risk group of those most likely to develop serious complications from the virus. After the announcement was made, critics of the president's handling of the pandemic have flooded social media with jokes and memes about the news.

The reaction stirred up a fury in Good Morning Britain host Piers, who took to his own account to call out the 'disgusting ecstatic glee' over Trump's diagnosis. Hitting out at the haters, Piers fired off: "Interesting to see those who’ve spent the last few years screaming that Trump’s an uncaring, heartless empathy-devoid b****** now spewing their gleeful joy that he & his wife have a deadly virus. They’re no better than the man they loathe."

He then said some of the vitriol reminded him of the reaction to Boris Johnson being hospitalised with coronavirus back in April. "It’s the ecstatic glee I am witnessing that is so distasteful & hypocritical from those who preach about tolerance and kindness. We saw the same when Boris Johnson nearly died. It’s vile," slammed Piers.
