Popular Tanzanian singer Emmanuel Elibariki aka Ney Wa Mitego has revealed that his mother advised him to quit music completely.
According to his mother, the Tanzanian rapper continues to risk his life if he releases controversial songs that put him in an awkward position with the Tanzanian government.
However, Nay released his new song ‘Alisema’ this month without his mother suspecting his moves.
In a recent interview he disclosed that he composed, recorded and filmed the song without his mother’s knowledge.
Nay went ahead and revealed that after his mother heard the song she called him immediately but he explained himself and she understood him.
This comes barely a year after he was arrested over a song allegedly insulting President John Magufuli.
In his song, Nay Wa Mitego raps in Swahili:
“Who are you now? Don’t you want to listen to advice? Don’t you want criticism?” in the song he is addressing someone he calls “a doctor specializing in lancing boils”
“Lancing boils” is a common phrase used frequently by Mr. Magufuli and also whose nickname tingatinga means bulldozer, who ascended to power as a corruption-busting President.
