Johnson Mwakazi

Media personality-cum businessman Johnson Mwakazi has dismissed rumours that he is dead.

The rumours started circulating on social media over the weekend, with some Kenyans even sending in condolence messages.

“I cannot believe this…My colleague…My friend…Johnsoin Mwakazi is no more! Rest in peace buddy! Till we meet again on that beautiful shore,” one message read.

Mwakazi, who quit his job at Citizen TV as an anchor to join WTV as a director, urged the public to ignore the rumour while assuring them that he is well.

“Friends! All is well! I give thanks to God! Kindly note that rumors that I am dead are NOT TRUE! I am ALIVE and I give thanks to God for the gift of life! #GodIsGreat #PraiseGod” wrote Mwakazi.

Mwakazi’s resignation from the broadcaster in 2014 came as a surprise to many.

Speaking to Eve Woman magazine, Mwakazi had at the time stated that “I felt that it was time for me to grow, I had been an anchor for a while and the need for change kept clawing at me.”

“It was a great honour to be on Citizen TV television, to have the opportunity to share a message in front of millions of Kenyans, but after that the only question to ask was how did I look and stand? Did I present the question right? I wanted to do more, to be the Martin Luther of TV or to have a Mahatma Gandhi impact,

“I wanted to do real stories that made an impact. I was tired of just having a good show and the false sense of security that comes with that, I wanted to be involved with something that challenged me to grow,” said Mwakazi.

Mwakazi has been married for seven years to Kendi and are blessed with two children, a girl and a boy.

Aside from his job as a director at WTV, Mwakazi also runs a PR company, Royal Voice International.
