When Rufftone took over the airwave with singles like Mwikulu, the gospel industry was still quite conservative. His song, however, became a huge hit in both the secular and gospel scenes, making him a force to be reckoned with. Soon after, his younger siblings Daddy Owen became a hit with his debut single Shillingi ya Kenya. Daddy Owen quickly took the spotlight from his brother.

As Daddy Owen grew bigger, even for the gospel scene, Juliani, Jimmy Gait and Ekko Dydda came into the limelight and dominated the industry for a while, sharing the best male gospel artiste spotlight.

However, the recent Groove Awards nominations already show a shift with numerous up-comers.
