Many Kenyans knew the late Bob Collymore as the CEO of the telecom giant Safaricom.

The passing on of the longest serving Safaricom CEO following a courageous battle with a rare kind of Leukemia (Acute Myeloid Leukemia-AML) is a blow to Kenya.

Collymore was born in 1958 in Guyana and went on to get British citizenship later on life. Here are some little known facts about his Guyanese heritage.

1. Guyana is located at the northern coast of South America.

2. The people are also spread in other neighboring countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, the United States, Canada, Venezuela, Brazil, Suriname, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

3. Currently, the total population of Guyanese people across these different countries is 1.2 million.

4. Guyana’s population stands at 771,000 people.

5. It is considered to be part of the Caribbean countries even though it is not an Island country like the others.
