The national cereals and produce board has stopped buying maize from
farmers. The board says it has spent the 2 billion shillings allocated
by government for the purchase of maize. It is now asking farmers to
make use of its storage facilities. Farmers, however, are unhappy with
that option and say they are likely to lose money after a bumper harvest
that has depressed maize prices.
