The ongoing facelift of Muliro Gardens has been temporarily stopped by Kenya Forest Service (KFS), claiming it was interfering with endangered tree species.
Ecosystem Conservator Martin Mamati arrived at the garden with armed KFS officers and suspended further clearance of bamboo trees in the park, until permits are obtained.
"We got a tip-off from the public that bamboo trees were being cut down at the park. We found out that 22 bamboos were cut without permit," he said.
Social Services Executive Jamin Shitsukane had earlier hinted on planting indigenous species in the park and pruning the existing varieties.
