Rift Valley Province garnered 496 points to win the 33rd Kenya Primary Schools Athletics Championships, which ended Friday in Nyeri.

The province topped both boys and girls categories, after clinching 296 and 234 points to successfully defend the title they won last year.

Rift Valley captain Joshua Masikonde led the way for his team by winning the 400m race in 50:58 as the two-day championships ended yesterday. Dennis Nyambane of Nyanza (50:89) was second while his teammate Peter Ndoiga (51:30) was third.

After winning the 10,000m race on Thursday, Rift Valley picked up from where they left yesterday with victory in both the 5000m boys’ and girls’ races.

Dennis Kipruto clocked 14:01.3 for victory in the boys race leading his teammate Peter Rono (14:19.4) in a 1-2 finish. Nyanza’s Hillary Langat spoiled the party for Rift Valley as he sneaked in third place clocking 14:20.5.

In the 3,000m race, Rift Valley once again showed their dominance in the track with victory in both the boys’ and girls’ races.

Malel William led his teammate Laban Kimutai in a 1-2 finish with Western’s Silas Laikon settling for third position.
