A GSU officer
was arrested after he demanded bribe from a fellow policeman on Tuesday night
in Gwakairo, Ruiru.
According
to police records at the Ruiru police station, Police Constable Charles Mbugua stopped a vehicle driven by Corporal
Bernard Langat and attempted to demand bribe for violating curfew rules.
The report indicates that Corporal Langat was driving from the hospital when two men, Constable Mbugua and a civilian, Michael Njenga Chege, stopped him to ask for the bribe.

Both Constable Mbugua and
Chege were dressed in civilian clothes and claimed to be police officers. The two are said to have taken Corporal Langat’s ignition key before
demanding money from him.
After the Corporal
suspected that the two were imposters, he raised an alarm where members of the
public come to his aid.
Interrogations established
that one of them, Constable Mbugua, was a GSU officer attached to the Unit’s
headquarters in Ruaraka while Michael Chege was a civilian.
Both Constable
Mbugua and Michael Chege will be charged with violating curfew and extortion.
On top of that,
Chege will also be charged for impersonating a police officer.
