Former vice chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya was on December 15 elected as its new chairman of with Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru as his vice.

According to a tweet on CoG handle, Salim is expected to succeed Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok in six months at the end of his one-year term.

Salim’s position has in the past been held by former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Former Meru Governor Peter Munya.

Speaking to journalists at the Diani Reef Hotel, Governor Nanok announced that several positions in the council would be filled with different governors.

This announcement came to light only days after Nanok promised to work with the government of the Republic, despite being a member of the Opposition.

Following the announcement, Kenyans on social media expressed their take on the choice made.

Some felt like the move was political while others thought Salim was best fitted for the position
