After Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i announced the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results for 2017, Goldalyn Kakuya became a household name.
Goldalyn is the young girl of St Anne Junior Lubao in Kakamega County who led the 2017 class eight pupils after scoring 455 out of the possible 500 marks.
Goldalyn had her glory as she met the president twice in the week that followed the announcement.
She was celebrated all over the country with media houses hosting her for interviews. She got an invitation once to the state house and another to the State luncheon that followed President Uhuru’s inauguration on November 28.
However, Kenyans forgot to ask, did we have a leading boy in the whole lot? One Facebook user Mukurima X Muriuki nudged Kenyans to the reality that maybe we are forgetting the boy child a bit too fast.
Well, we did have a leading boy from Effort Junior Academy in Kirinyaga County. Eugene Mburu Mwangi beat all the boys who sat for KCPE 2017 by scoring 446 marks.
A shy Eugene, who was position three nationwide admits he was a bit jealous when Goldalyn scooped all the attention. “I am only human. I felt a little jealous. I thought the president would have asked where the top boy was so that he could send a message of equality across the board. Nonetheless, everybody would love to meet the president. He is really cool. But now I am looking forward to life in High School,” said the humble spoken Eugene.
Apart from meeting and dining with the president, Eugene wishes the latter would mentor him.
According to Eugene’s teacher and mother, he has not always topped his class but his emotional balance is a strong trait that makes him successful in whatever he envisions.
Speaking about the girl who took all the credit for best performance, Eugene says he hasn’t spoken to her but he would love to call and congratulate her.
Eugene who is set to join Alliance Boys high school admits he is aware of the task he has on his shoulders as many boys and girls from Kitrinyaga will look upon him.
