LAMU, KENYA: A hand grenade was Sunday morning found inside a church in Mpeketoni, Lamu causing panic among worshipers.
Police said the hand grenade did not have a safety pin, an indication it was ready for explosion.
GSU personnel were sent to the church and managed to pick it safely.
Worshipers who were already in the church were evacuated following the discovery of the explosive. It is not clear who took it there and the motive behind it.
The incident came a week after six worshipers were killed in a church in an attack by gunmen. Police say they later killed the two gunmen who were behind the attack.
On Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto was in Likoni for a church service.
