Sandra Chebet is the 2022 Athletics Kenya Track and Field second leg women’s 10,000m champion.
Chebet from Lemotit camp proved too strong for her eight fellow participants as she raced to victory in the murram track at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Friday in a time of 34 minutes and 32.4 seconds (34.32.4).
Nesphine Jepleting of KDF came in second place in 34:48.9 while Betty Chepkemoi of Central Rift, who surrendered her lead after the fifth lap settled for third place in 35:16.4.
Speaking after the win, Chebet said she expected stiff competition and that her decision to compete in the women's 5,000m during the first Track and Field Meet held in Nairobi a fortnight ago contributed to her victory in Kisumu.
“I didn’t expect to win. 10km is always tough and consists of many disciplined and good athletes. I am happy with the way I run today which motivates me as I plan to run 5km on Saturday.”
