Kaya Tiwi School’s good shows makes them favourites when national secondary schools term two games start in Kisumu on Tuesday.
The reigning national netball champions have won the title twice since they made their debut at the national games in 2016.
Team’s assistant coach Mariana Obonyo said she has the squad that won the title last year apart from one player Evelyn Achieng, who completed Fourth Form last year.
“Our teams are ready to reclaim the title. They should prepare properly since we have a solid team in all departments,” he said.
Kaya Tiwi start off their campaign with a match against Karuri of Central region in pool A. ”We shall go flat out and fight hard in every game as champions,” she said.
“I think our victory last year has no bearing on this year’s tournament. Our focus is to retain the title,” she added.
They won their first national title in 2016 on their debut but lost it in 2017 to Obambo before they reclaimed it last year after beating Nyakach Girls 58-32 in final.
Kaya Tiwi will rely on the services of two siblings Melda and Monica Oguda. Melda, who is the team’s captain, has been instrumental in the team and her services will be required.
Brenda Atieno, Mercy Frederick, Rose Adhiambo and Mercy Naya are other stars to watch.
School Principal Robert Aran said: “We have not lost a single match from the zonals, sub-county, county and Coast region games and we don’t expect to lose any game at the national games on our way to retaining the trophy.”
