General Service Unit began the national men’s title defence on a winning note as former women’s champions KCB Bank registered mixed results in yesterday’s second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation League at Kitui High School.
The paramilitary side thrashed Nairobi Prisons in straight sets (25-12, 25-15, 25-19) before overcoming a resilient Kenya Ports Authority 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20).
But the surprise of the day was in the women’s matches when national head coach Japheth Munala returned to haunt his former club Kenya Pipeline as KCB stunned the Embakasi-based side 3-1 (25-21, 33-31, 25-19, 25-13).
Experienced left attacker Noel Murambi, right attacker Violet Makuto, utility player Leonida Kasaya and Jemima Siangu were all involved in the drubbing of former employers.
It was a good bounce back for the bankers after losing 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15) to defending champions Prisons Kenya in their season opener.
