Berlin Marathon Women’s Champion Gladys Cherono jetted back into the country today.
The record course holder was not received by many at the Eldoret International Airport – a low key reception considering she had just completed a hat-trick of Berlin Marathon wins.
Her husband Joseph Bwambok, close friends and relatives were on site with the custom gourd of 'mursik' to receive her.
“I’m happy I was victorious for the third time. I had done my preparations well and I was not fearing anyone,” said a jubilated Cherono.
She also expressed her delight in smashing the course record, saying she had belief in the training she had back home.

“My target was to try and better my personal best, I was happy to also break the course record. I had to run my own because I believe in what I had done during the build-up training back at home,” she added.
Cherono, who also won the Berlin Marathon in 2014, beat Ethiopian duo Tirunesh Dibaba and Aga Ruti to clinch her third ever Berlin Marathon win.
