Newly crowned Coast Region boys' basketball champions Aga Khan Academy are enjoying fruits of patience and determination.

According to the team's coach Jimnah Kimani, it has been a painstaking four years for him to put up the winning team.

Kimani said he had a four-year plan since he joined the school in 2012.

"I drew a four-year programme, which I presented to the management of the school. They were in full support of the idea and we are all rejoicing in the fruits of our labour," Kimani, who previously guided Baptist High School to the 2007 national games, said.

Aga Khan were crowned Coast Region champions at the weekend when they stunned last year's winners St George's High School of Kilifi County 39-33 in the final.

"I have been building a team, while at the same time helping players improve in their form. Yes, it has taken us four years to do that and I am happy our dream of making it to the national games has come true. The morale is high at the school because of our achievement," said Kimani.

"Everything is built around training and our focus is now to qualify for the East Africa School games to be held in Eldoret in August. We only need to win two matches in our pool and make it to the regional games, since all semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the Eldoret games," added the former Coast Basketball Association Secretary.

On the pools at the national games, Kimani remained optimistic of making it to the semi-finals. Aga Khan are in pool "B" with Kangaru, Kapenguria and Kisumu Boys. "They are all strong sides," said the coach.
