MMUST Rugby center Timothy Mmasi has promised to give his all for the national men’s sevens team after earning call up to play for Shujaa on Friday.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, Mmasi said he is happy he will be achieving his dream of playing for the Kenya Sevens at the World Seven Series.

“I am the happiest man on Earth today. It has been my dream ever since I started playing rugby. God has really been faithful,” said the former Kabras Sugar academy player.

Shujaa head coach Innocent Simiyu named five new faces in his squad that will travel to Canada for the opening rounds of the 2021 World 7s Series opener slated for September 18.

Mmasi will be joined by Mark Kwemoi, Levy Amunga, Alvin Marube and Derrick Keyoga for their maiden World 7s Series appearance.

“I have come close to being named in the final squad twice but I never gave up. Now that I am here, I promise to give everything for Kenya and help the team win,” said Mmasi.

Simiyu named Nelson Oyoo as captain while Willy Ambaka, Herman Humwa, Alvin Otieno, Daniel Taabu, Jeff Olouch and Billy Odhiambo all have maintained their places in the team.

KCB trio of Jacob Ojee, Vincent Onyala and Johnstone Olindi are some of the notable absentees in the team alongside Dan Sikuta of Kabras Sugar.

“Trust the process and keep working hard. It will finally pay,” Mmasi advised fellow aspiring players and youngsters wishing to play for Kenya in future.
