Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has backed down on the release of players to the national team Harambee Stars.

The company has accepted to reschedule all the remaining league and top eight matches to allow the national team time to prepare for the June 4 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

KPL chairman Chimsen Ndiema said the decision was agreed on during the company’s governing council meeting.

Ndiema, however, said the company has decided that its members will not take part in the Football Kenya Cup match.

He said matches that will be postponed for the sake of Harambee Stars would be moved to the weekend’s they had set aside for FKL Cup matches.

NO FK CUP

"Since FKL has not communicated to us when the Cup competition will kick off, we will take away those dates we had set aside and use them to play the league," he said.

He denied accusations that KPL was frustrating the national team pointing out that they have always supported the team by allowing their players to be with the team three days a week.

"In 2008 we were in charge of the team and spent Sh13.5m which was never refunded to us, it is unfair to say that we do not support them," he said.

He also defended KPL CEO Jack Oguda and insisted that he will represent them in the Harambee Stars board.

The board announced on Thursday that Oguda would no longer sit on the board.
