Wanjigi: Send home all MPs over rising fuel, food prices

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has urged Kenyans to vote out all Members of Parliament for failure to cushion them against economic shocks.

He said MPs had failed to mitigate the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities. "These are signs of failure on the part of government and we cannot blame the Executive only but Parliament cannot dissociate itself from the current economic mess especially on skyrocketing fuel prices," Wanjigi said during a meeting with Ruiru business leaders at BTL grounds yesterday.

The presidential aspirant accused the lawmakers of failing to champion for the rights of Kenyans.

"The MPs put us in the current mess by amending the 2019 Energy Act, which abolished the free market during President Mwai Kibaki's regime that now allows racketeers to benefit at the expense of Kenyans," Wanjigi said.

"I call upon Kenyans that we join hands in sending home all current MPs for failing the common man," he added.

He also took a swipe at the government saying it has failed Kenyans citing the low fuel prices in neighbouring countries of Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

He also exuded confidence of beating ODM leader Raila Odinga during nominations for the party's presidential ticket.

Wanjigi urged Raila to ensure democracy is upheld in party primaries for various seats.

"My friend Raila has good credentials fighting for democratic space in the country and we call on him to ensure democracy also thrives in the running of the affairs of ODM party," he said.

The businessman said ODM would prove to Kenyans that it was the most democratic political party. He urged the party not to entertain boardroom deals but instead allow members to exercise their democratic rights in identifying candidates for all elective positions.

Wanjigi will today take campaigns for his presidential bid to Nyanza counties.
