Covid-19: Nurse tests negative after spending a week in ICU

A 32-year-old nurse from Rachuonyo Sub-County in Homabay who had tested positive for the coronavirus and who gave given birth to a baby boy while under the Intensive Care Unit at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Isolation Centre has recovered.

Her baby who was put in incubation on Friday night has also tested negative. The two will now wait for the second confirmatory testing before they are discharged from the hospital.

The nurse has been under oxygen for the last one week. She had a normal delivery on Friday night, a day after she had signed consent to undergo a cesarean section.

Kisii County Public Officer Dr Richard Onkware confirmed the results and called on the public for those who had been infected by the virus.

“Our medics have done their part and it’s still our responsibility as Kenyans to ensure that we continue to observing all the guidelines that have been issued by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).

On Wednesday, five people who had tested negative were discharged from the hospital.

Five other patients have also turned negative. Repeat confirmatory tests will be done before being released.

Six others are still recuperating at the hospital’s isolation center. The County has so far reported 27 positive coronavirus cases.
