A man, accused of killing his wife, has been characterised as an insecure man who frequently voiced concerns about his late wife's addiction to Instagram and other social networks.

On July 19, 2022, which was Father's Day, Murad Awadh allegedly killed Nuru Ibrahim, using two kitchen knives.

In a testimony before Justice Anne Ong'injo, Said Omar, Nuru's father, described Awadh as deeply insecure regarding his wife's usage of the app and her tendency to boast about her growing number of followers.

Omar informed the court that the accused had made several calls to him, expressing his discontent with his late wife's Instagram use and behaviour. It appeared that Awadh was uncomfortable with his wife's conduct.

Omar also confirmed that the accused, a long-distance truck driver, and his late wife had been experiencing marital issues ever since they got married. The couple had six children, one of whom is deceased.

"At one point, I received a call informing me that the accused and his late wife were in a heated argument. I called the accused and advised him to work out their issues," Omar said.

On the fateful evening, Omar received a call from Awadh, who informed him that Nuru was on her way to the police station to obtain a P3 form. Salma Ahmed, a cousin of the deceased, corroborated Omar's account.

Salma shared with the High Court that the deceased had frequently reached out to her to vent her frustrations about the marriage, expressing her desire to end it.

Guided by prosecutor Benard Ngiri, Salma said she had attempted to contact the accused, conveying Nuru's discomfort with the marriage and her wish to separate. Reportedly, the accused vehemently opposed this suggestion.
