KENYA: First Lady Margaret Kenyatta Tuesday commended the Catholic Church for helping children with special needs to be self-reliant through life skills programmes.
She said the initiative by the Orione Congregation in Thika equips children with special needs with skills that enable them to be integrated into the society.
The First Lady appealed to parents with children with special needs to bring them out to be equipped with skills that can make them self-reliant.

Mrs Kenyatta made the remarks at State House Nairobi during a video presentation on the activities of Orione Community Training Centre in Thika.
The centre, which is run by Catholic fathers known as Sons of Divine Providence, caters for children with physical and mental disabilities.
“The Orione Congregation is doing a commendable job of training physically and mentally challenged children to live dignified lives and to be independent. They need our support,” she said.
She pledged to mobilise resources to support the noble initiative by the Orione Congregation.
