NAIROBI, KENYA: Police have rescued a publisher who had been kidnapped as he walked home on Tuesday night in Ngara Area, Nairobi.

The victim identified as Peter Muiruri Muchai, a publisher in the city was rescued from a house in Ngong Matasia area several hours after he had been abducted.

He was rescued by a team of police officers from Special Crimes Prevention Unit on Wednesday.

Head of the unit Noah Katumo said they recovered a loaded pistol from the house and arrested two suspects, a man and a woman.

Katumo said the Muchai was walking home on Tuesday night when he was taken hostage by three gunmen who were in a salon car.

“The men had not made any demands of ransom but they had asked the victim for family contacts,” said Katumo.

He said some of the accomplices managed to escape from the house as the officers approached there and that the two are expected in court today.

According to police statistics, some 24 cases of abduction have been reported between January and May this year as compared to the 35 that were recorded in 2012 and 25 in 2011 in the same period.
