Kenyan international football player Macdonald Mariga who is in the country for a brief holiday has rubbished recent claims that he purposely squeezed a referee's hand until it bled.

The reports, which have been rounds on both local and international media have threatened to tarnish his reputation.

"Truth is, contrary to media reports I never squeezed any body's hand. On that particular match there were several players who greeted the referee in charge of the match but to my greatest shock I don't understand why he decided to lay the blame on me."

Despite this, Mariga, who plans on retiring after a span of five years, says he is determined to continue putting Kenya on the world map.

“I also intend to initiate a local football academy that will help nurture local talent which I strongly believe has developed and is ready to make Kenya proud," he concludes
