The statement of the Cabinet came after a after a week of protests by chiefs demanding the Government to clarify whether it will retain their jobs after elections.

Issuing the assurance at the State House in Nairobi on Thursday afternoon, after a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Kibaki, the Government stated it is bringing the necessary legislation to secure their employment in the Provincial Administration.

In the meeting the Cabinet also re-affirmed its position in support of the holding of General Elections on 4th March 2012 and assured Kenyans that the Government has facilitated the delivery of the BVR kits for use in the voter registration exercise.

Chiefs and their assistants in Nyamira County last week had expressed their uncertainty about the future and accused some politicians of threatening to abolish the entire provincial administration while others spoke of restructuring. They had called on Parliament to quickly pass the Chiefs Bill 2011 before the dissolution of the House.
