The ban on school prayers for candidates has been a blessing in disguise. Prayer warriors are emerging from among the candidates. With avenues of leakages almost completely sealed, many can only appeal for divine intervention. This is especially so for candidates who had been playing truancy and frequenting jam session joints every other weekend. I here-by share a prayer by one of the candidates at a centre am invigilating in.

I have attempted a translation. “God we thank you for enabling us to sit for these exams. A number of those we began schooling with have dropped out. We thank you for having been with us up to now. Give us the courage to sit for this examination without being anxious. Shield us from any trouble that may prevent us from completing the exams. You are a miracle working God and it is our prayer that you will be with us as you were with Moses when you 'showed Pharaoh dust'. We shall bless you once we finish schooling without any trouble. We know you can even make our school to appear in the newspapers among the top performing schools.
Help us to remember what our teachers taught us. Even though some of us were truants, you are a God of miracles. Forgive those of us who would fall asleep during mathematics lessons and also those who were disrespectful to teachers. This time, Matiang’i has vowed that there will be no leakage. You are a tougher than Matiang’i and you can reveal to us the genuine leakage. We also pray for fellow candidates who are sitting for exams under police escort for allegedly burning school property, you are a forgiving God. Please help them to pass. Even your son, JC, forgave the thief on the cross.
We also pray for the expectant candidates like Eva. Give her courage and do not allow the unborn kid to disturb her or ‘pop out’ until the exam is over. May you remove all the obstacles on our path.
